We often imagine economics as a precise mathematical science — something that can be calculated and therefore relied upon, but behind the graphs, models, and seemingly objective curves are people with emotions, political views, and personal stories. The language of economics appears neutral, but the reality behind it is far from stable.

Although we have heard over the past year that the Danish economy is doing well, we sense uncertainty from a more turbulent world view than before. New political, climatic, and technological shifts are creating fluctuations, not only in the markets, but also in our consciousness.

With Urolige Økonomi (Unstable Economy), we let art explore this state of affairs. For even though the language of economics and art rarely meet, art can open up new images of uncertainty, crisis, collapse, and hope for new systems.

The exhibition brings together four artists—Hannibal Andersen, Jamilla Mahmoud, Jacob Remin, and Sisters Hope—who have each addressed economic instability through new works.

In the exhibition, you will encounter the works in their intended order: Ruined, Double Rifled, Data Reserve, and Sensuous Society Manifesto, which in different ways explore the fluctuations and openings of the economy.

Just as tomorrow’s events are hidden from us, the works are revealed one at a time as you move through the exhibition’s black and white corridors with shifting views of light and darkness. Along the way, you will find four gray chests, which you are welcome to open and explore.
