porous ⟜

listening
we were the ones that didn’t breathe

fled into a heaven
of white walls

sat still on a staircase
like rocks on butterflies

setting our insides afire
to devour the smoke

someone asked
how are you being held?
how are you being whole?

I didn’t need a story
I didn’t need a real world
I just needed to imagine

to become the lights
the forests, the faraway worlds

the hum of a refridgerator

someone else
living the life
that was there for me

presence porous

so, you see
I had to become you
even before you existed
